The Junior Herbalist Club (JHC) is a recognised extracurricular course for children and teens, offering an exciting three-level training program that grows with them:
🌿 Level 1 & Level 2 – Offers hands-on herbal education for children, with 10 engaging sessions per level, packed with discovery and practical skills.
🌿 Level 3 – Designed exclusively for teens, this advanced level dives deeper into herbal medicine and body systems, critical thinking, and real-world applications.
From playful exploration to in-depth study, JHC adapts to the age and ability of each group. Younger children embark on a journey of discovery, engaging all their senses in a safe and supervised environment. As students progress, the course evolves, ensuring that teens find exciting, age-appropriate challenges that expand their knowledge and skills. Whether starting fresh or continuing through the levels, JHC provides a structured and enriching learning experience—inspiring the next generation of herbalists!
Junior Herbalist Club was created and developed by Medical Herbalist and Naturopath Mel Hornby and has been delivering herbal education to children since 2014. In 2021 Mel was awarded The Christopher Hedley Memorial Award for Significant Contribution to Herbal Medicine in recognition of her development of the JHC education program.

Bringing Herbal Wisdom to a New Generation
Historically, knowledge of hedgerow medicine was commonplace, with people confidently identifying and using plants to treat minor ailments. Unfortunately, much of this wisdom is being lost. JHC aims to revive this knowledge, helping children and teens explore the healing power of plants and understand their importance in health and wellbeing.
